Chelsea Piers welcomes Matt Hurst as Head Coach of Chelsea Piers Aquatics Club

Chelsea Piers Athletic Club welcomes Matt Hurst as Head Coach of the Chelsea Piers Aquatics Club. Matt comes to CP-AC most recently from Penn State University, where he coached for 7 years and served as the Associate Head Coach.

While at Penn State, Matt developed numerous All-Americans, national record holders, and three Olympians in the 2020 Tokyo Games. Before Penn State, Matt spent eight years as the top assistant coach at Southern Connecticut University and also served as the lead coach at the SoNoCo swim club in New Haven during that time.  Early in his career, Matt spent one season as an assistant coach at Wesleyan University. Matt graduated from Southern Connecticut, where he was a two-year captain, 11-time All-American, school record holder, and U.S. national qualifier. He also holds a master's degree from Southern Connecticut in human performance.

Chelsea Piers Athletic Club in Stamford, CT, is the home of Chelsea Piers Aquatics Club (CP-AC), one of Connecticut's most successful competitive swim teams. CP-AC is recognized as one of the top 20 programs in the United States, with more than 50 swimmers headed onto collegiate careers since 2016. The club was designated a "Silver Medal Club" in 2016 and climbed to "Gold Medal Club" status in 2020. CP-AC offers opportunities for all levels of swimmers, from the 7-year-old beginner to the 18-year-old National Qualifier. Every aspect of a swimmer's career is considered, including but not limited to: nutritional education, mental approach to training and racing, dry land exercise (including injury prevention circuits and strength & conditioning routines), and a strong emphasis on technical proficiency in the water.
