New Canaan's Gemstone Farm Sprouts a Giant Pumpkin, Enters 10th Annual Weigh-off on September 25!

Ridgefield’s 10th Annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off, co-chaired by Steve Maydan and Jessica Collins, will take place in Ballard Park on Sunday, September 25th.

Pumpkin growers from all over the region will roll their huge orange beauties in Ridgefield and descend on Ballard Park. Among the growers is Valerie Jensen, the founder and visionary of Ridgefield's Prospector Theater and most recently Gemstone Farm in New Canaan.

Providing adults with disabilities meaningful employment by way of a working farm, Jensen calls her team members "Gems" and works alongside them to bring good things to life - including PUMPKINS!

"It was a lot of work to grow it and keep it alive," says Jensen who adds, "It’s tiny for a giant pumpkin but Gemstone is proud!"

The pumpkin love doesn't end after the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off! Jensen says the beauty will head to the Prospector Theater and will display. "It will help us to promote our new pumpkin spice popcorn!

Jensen says the photo here was taken a few weeks ago and ... "the pumpkin is even bigger!"

The Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off is a free event and open to the public! It is presented by the Connecticut Giant Pumpkin Growers Club. In addition to giant pumpkins, attendees will be treated to farm-fresh treats from local vendors and tons of family-friendly fun!
