Darien Challenges Friendly Rival New Canaan to Annual "Most Generous Town" Competition

November 11, 2022 -- The week before Thanksgiving, Darien and New Canaan will hold their annual challenge to see which is the “Most Generous Town” by raising the most funds for either The Community Fund of Darien or the New Canaan Community Foundation.

This year, the competition begins on Thursday, November 17th and ends on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th at 11:59 pm.

Donors can contribute to The Community Fund of Darien by texting 06820 to 44321 during this time window or by visiting www.communityfunddarien.org.  The winning town will take home the “Turkey Trophy” and bragging rights for the year, and their residents will take pride in the knowledge that their community makes charitable giving a priority.  New Canaan took home last year’s title, but both organizations celebrated after collectively raising more than $500,000 to support local nonprofits.  The towns are currently tied at two “Most Generous Town” titles each.

Inspired by the global Giving Tuesday movement to unleash the power of generosity, the two organizations created the event in 2017 as a way to use their residents’ competitive spirit to benefit their neighbors in need.  This much-needed financial support addresses critical local needs such as homelessness, hunger, mental and physical health, substance abuse, youth services and more.

“We know that Darien and New Canaan residents love a challenge, and we are eager to see which town can pull together to raise the most to change our neighbors’ lives for the better,” noted Janet King, Executive Director for The Community Fund of Darien.  “It’s not often that a Darien-New Canaan matchup ends in a win for both teams, but this friendly rivalry truly benefits our entire community.”
