Organic Explorations featuring art by Heide Follin and Ellen Schiffman opens August 9 at New Canaan Library

Informing and illuminating the compelling dual exhibition "Organic Explorations" is a mutual appreciation by the artists for nature and its organic, often abstract, beauty. The exhibition features mixed media pieces, including fiber and materials, and will run from August 9 through September 23, 2018, with an opening reception on Thursday, August 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Q & A with the artists will begin at 6:30 p.m.; all are welcome.

United in their choice of muse, Follin and Schiffman derive inspiration from observing, and then interpreting, organic and symmetrical forms found in nature and in their travels. "Inspired by nature, I weave together my work with lyricism and abstraction," states Follin.Though the results are decidedly different, Follin's a joyful whirl of color and Shiffman's arrestingly sharp in palette and design, both employ patterns and texture to invite the viewer to react to natural phenomena in a different way. "There is no symmetry." says Schiffman. " My forms are organic - often without clear boundaries. Serendipity and surprise play significant roles in all my creations."

"Organic Expressions" is sponsored by the Art Committee of New Canaan Library, and is curated by Annamari Mikkola and Gregg Welz. For additional information please contact Christle Chumney at 203.594.5075 or visit newcanaanlibrary.org.
