Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.

You're IT Robin Gail Oshman, MD, Ph.D.!

Why did you start your business?

Dermatology is the most interesting and diversified of all medical and surgical specialties, in my opinion.  Most gratifying is having the ability to take care of people of all ages from pediatrics through geriatrics.  Having a solo private practice allows me to spend quality time with each patient, personally addressing their specific needs.

There is a medical aspect of dermatology, such as evaluating for rashes, acne, melasma, eczema, moles, hair loss, infections, cysts and warts to name a few.

On the surgical side, I offer skin cancer removal, cosmetic mole removal, skin tag removal and wart removal.  All biopsies fall under this category as well as removing cysts and fatty tumors.

The cosmetic side of my business includes laser hair removal, Botox, fillers, peels and vein removal.

When I opened my practice in New Canaan it was in the early 1990s. I was the only dermatologist serving the community for many years.

Finish this sentence: “I wish I could”

I wish I could clone myself so that I could spend more time in my New Canaan office. I divide my time between New Canaan and Westport.

What is your best selling service?

My best selling service is skin cancer screening. If detected early, skin cancer can be cured. A simple visual examination of the skin will detect sun-related skin cancers which can then be removed in the office.  This includes basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. It is even better to have precancerous lesions – actinic keratoses & dysplastic nevi – removed before they become cancerous.
