Sama Yoga Launches Yoga Academy For All

Sama Yoga in New Canaan is now a Yoga Alliance® Registered Training Academy for everyone who wants to expand their knowledge of yoga.

The academy is a new kind of yoga school rooted in traditional Indian yogic tradition yet modernized for today, open to all bodies, ages and abilities.

A series of specialized workshops begins with The Art & Science of Restorative Yoga on Saturday, April 20, from 1 to 5 pm.

Participants gain insight on the science of restorative yoga including the function and relationship of nervous and digestive systems, the stress response and techniques to navigate stressors, as well as the art of physical support for ourselves and others. “Yoga is a great way to recover from stress,” instructor Christina Dufour said.

Sama Yoga’s Training Academy continues with Sanskrit: The Language of Yoga on Sunday, June 9th from 4:30 – 7:30pm, Kids Yoga Teacher Training on June 22, 23, 29, 30 from 12:30-6:30pm, The Art of Teaching Yoga: Elevate Your Cues on Saturday, September 14th from 1-4pm, 200 Hour Teacher Training beginning October 26th, meeting one to two times per month on weekends, and on Saturday, November 9th, from 1-5pm, 8 Limbs of Yoga: Philosophy, Asana & Meditation.

Registered yoga teachers can earn CEUs by attending. All are welcome. Sama Yoga is a registered yoga school and continuing education provider with Yoga Alliance, the national nonprofit organization for yoga professionals.

Located downtown inside the New Canaan Racquet Club at 45 Grove St., The studio offers a private indoor setting with radiant floor, plenty of natural light, lockers, showers and an outdoor deck and meditation garden. Sama Yoga has almost 20 certified teachers, each specialized in meeting the students’ individual needs. The studio will continue to offer its regular classes, workshops and private sessions as well. The studio opened three years ago.

“We believe a yoga teacher’s knowledge can always expand from an initial certification,” said Rebekah Jacobs, Sama Yoga owner, director and instructor.

“Like yoga itself, a teacher’s journey is ongoing and can greatly benefit from being woven and reshaped, so it is current and meaningful for all types of abilities, students, classes, studios and venues where we teach,” Jacobs said.

Participants will learn more about philosophy, pronunciation, terminology, methodology, and related sciences. Learning the language of yoga helps teachers communicate concisely with students and pronounce yoga-related words

“We’re passionate about teaching instructors,” Jacobs said. “Sharing our knowledge feels relevant and important.”

Everyone can benefit from attending academy workshops including educators, athletic coaches, nurses, parents and lifelong students.

Sama Yoga welcomes everyone; every experience, body-type, age and ability. It emphasizes that yoga can enhance all aspects of our lives, including a reduction of stress, increase in well-being, and compassionate relationships with spouses, parents, children, co-workers, bosses, friends and ourselves.

“Yoga is a strategy for overall health, well-being and joy, on and off the mat. It is an ongoing journey that spans decades,” owner Jacobs said. Sama Yoga Academy reflects this important truth. To learn more about academy classes, go to samayogacenter.comor call 203-594-7077
