New Canaan Library’s Curtis Gallery Group Exhibition: Small Works, Big Talent

“Small Works, Big Talent,” a group show featuring the diverse and intriguing work of six area artists, opens in the Library’s H. Pelham Curtis Gallery on December 5, 2019 and runs through January 19, 2020.

Participating in “Small Works, Big Talent” are four Fairfield County-based artists - Holly Hawthorn, Amy Kaplan, Tara Kovach, and Susan Leggitt - and two Brooklyn-based artists, Natale Adgnot and Tracy Penn.

An opening reception will take place on Thursday, December 5 from 6 – 8 p.m. A Q & A with the artists will begin at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Working in a smaller scale certainly did not limit the artist’s skill or creativity, as witnessed in the exceptional art in this unique show. With the guideline that all pieces must be 18” x 18” or smaller, the works cover the spectrum; reflecting a range of mediums as well as the distinctive, individual style and discipline of each artist. Hawthorn’s New England shells, Kaplan’s paper strips, Kovach’s landscape inspired abstracts, Leggitt’s sky less and waterless landscapes, Adgnot’s three dimensional sketches and Penn’s encaustic textures all incorporate ideas well beyond their size.

The show’s opening coincides with the beginning of the holiday season, and all pieces exhibited are for sale, making perfect gifts for others, or for oneself. Unlike the Library’s usual art exhibitions, any piece purchased may be taken immediately, rather than after the January closing.
