Recreation Department Facilities Update

Waveny House and the Lapham Community Center are CLOSED to the Public. Both the Recreation Office Staff and Lapham Community Center Staff are working normal business hours Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. the Staff is available by phone, and email to assist the public.   

The Carriage Barn Arts Center and the Powerhouse Theater are both CLOSED.

Here is the Status of our Public Park Facilities:

Our Town Parks remain OPEN. The open space is a great place to enjoy nature, exercise, walk, ride a bike, jog or play catch. Just remember to maintain the requested social distancing while enjoying our open fields and trails in Waveny Park, Irwin Park, Mead Park, and Kiwanis Park. 

The Playgrounds at Mead Park, Kiwanis Park and Dixon are CLOSED.   

WAVENY PARK

The Baseball/Softball Fields and the outdoor fitness area CLOSED The synthetic turf fields are OPEN to New Canaan residents for unorganized play. All New Canaan youth and adult organization sport practices, games and gatherings are SUSPENDED at least through March 31st. The Trails are open.   

Restrooms - Portable Toilets are available at synthetic athletic field. The Public restroom next to the Waveny Athletic Fields is open. The restroom at the back of Waveny Paddle Tennis Lodge servicing Spencer's Run and Platform Tennis Courts is open.  The Paddle Tennis Courts are open and available for play, however, NO attendant is on duty and the Waveny Paddle Lodge is closed to the public.

Players are asked to make reservations online and use the honor system for play with regard to playing time.   

MEAD PARK

The Large Baseball field is closed. Mellick and Gamble Fields are open. The Playground is CLOSED. All New Canaan youth and adult organization sport practices, games and gatherings are suspended.  Public restrooms at the Mead Park Lodge are open. There is a portable toilet available in the parking lot as well.

IRWIN PARK

The trails are open, the Grass Athletic Fields are closed. There is a Portable restroom located next to the Barn.   

KIWANIS PARK

The playground is CLOSED. The walking trail is open. There is a portable restroom located in the parking lot next to the Pavilion.

SPENCER'S RUN DOG PARK is OPEN

However, dog owners should follow CDC Guidelines for the spacing of a least 6 feet for social gatherings.

The HIGH SCHOOL TRACK

The high school track is open for walking/Jogging however there are No public restrooms available.

THE HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS COURTS are Open for Play.
