New Canaan Library Closed, Digital Access, Program Live Streaming

New Canaan Library takes the health and safety of our community and staff very seriously. It is with great sadness that we must announce that the Library is closed until further notice to facilitate social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19. Thank you for your patience as we work through this together as a community. As this situation has evolved, we are taking further action as recommended by health officials. But we are STILL here for you! Our team is working to create exciting new virtual learning opportunities, including the exciting program we are livestreaming tonight on Leonardo the Inventor – connect HERE at 7 pm to tune in and give great virtual learning a try!

Stay tuned – We are committed to our community and are developing new resources and services to help see us through the challenges of quarantine, and we’ll be sharing these regularly through our emails and our Social Media channels.

Updates

  • Do NOT return books until Library reopens
  • Book Hold last request 3/17 – Self service final pickup 3/20 by 5:00pm
  • All book donations suspended effective immediately
What will happen with current checkouts?
Please keep all Library materials at home; do not return them to the Library until it is reopened. The book drop will be locked and secured.
The Library has extended due dates on all items currently checked out to April 30. Any fines accrued during the library shut down will be waived.

Can new items be borrowed while the Library is closed?
The Digital Library is always open and has a phenomenal selection of children’s and adult eBooks, movies, music, audiobooks, and more! Log in with your New Canaan Library card to access these excellent resources.
The Library tried to continue holds takeout service for as long as possible, however, current health recommendations require the Library to cease. Today, March 17, will be the last day to place holds on Library items. Place holds through the Library's online catalog. Please wait to receive an email or call that your items are ready. When ready, items may be picked up in the temporary location between the sliding glass doors (by the parking lot entrance). Please limit requests to 10 items. These items will be already checked out to your library card, so items should be taken immediately from the vestibule.

Holds may be picked up between 9am-5pm through Friday 3/20. Please take care to limit your interactions in this space, and please remain at home if you are unwell.

All inter-library loans and book donations have been suspended, effective immediately.
