New Canaan Food Scrap Recycling, Free for Transfer Station Pass Holders

The food scrap recycling bins are ready to go at the Transfer Station. All you need to do is collect food scraps in a container at home. Collected waste can include fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, bones, dairy, coffee grinds and even small house plants. At the Transfer Station, the collected waste can be dumped directly into the designated bin. Or you can drop off the waste in compostable BPI-certified bags.

The Town has partnered with Curbside Compost to run the program. It's free for current Transfer Station pass-holders. If you need to get a permit, the cost for residents who have private haulers is $45 per year; if you're not serviced by a private hauler, the cost is $75 per year.  Click here for more information about Transfer Station permits.
