Creativity Connects New Canaan: Meet Deb Hecht, owner of Goldenberry, local creative, community advocate

Creativity Connects New Canaan

What fuels a vibrant, connected and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in New Canaan?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good. Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in New Canaan?

Creativity connects us.

Meet Deb Hecht, owner of Goldenberry in New Canaan.

Tell us about an organization in your town that makes you feel good

The Carriage Barn, a champion for New Canaan’s visual and performing arts, is hosting "Deck the Walls" fundraiser (currently underway).  Artists, designers, organizations and creative individuals/businesses donate one-of-a-kind holiday wreaths which are auctioned and sold during "Deck The Walls” exhibit and event.  It's a wonderful way to bring the community together and spread good feelings. I’m thrilled that my company, Goldenberry, will be part of it. It’s a festive New Canaan tradition and we want to do our part to bring some joy to the difficult year. We are donating a wreath and a table centerpiece!

Of course, the Holiday decorations throughout town make it feel magical and walking in town feels so festive.

Where do you go for inspiration and creativity?

I love Waveny Park! Walks in Waveny make me feel rejuvenated. I love the transition from Spring to Summer when downtown New Canaan hanging flower baskets make the streets look so charming. And, one of my new favorite places is Patisserie Saltzburg Patisserie where I enjoy an almond croissant for breakfast!

What do you love about your community?

November 14th marked Goldenberry's 1 yr anniversary back in New Canaan. Time has passed so quickly. Many, many people have checked in with us over the course of this year to ask how we are coping. Our supportive and kind customers are keeping us going.  Fingers crossed, during this busiest time of the year, New Canaan small businesses will make it easier for seniors and others with health concerns by offering curbside pickups.
