The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting have been awarded to the Town of New Canaan by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR).
These reports have been judged by impartial panels to meet the high standards of the programs, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the Town’s financial reports. These awards are the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and their attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The Finance Department has worked diligently with the Audit Committee to meet the performance challenges of responsible and responsive financial reporting. Members of the Committee have expressed their pleasure at the receipt of such an award and the team that has made the achievement of this standard of excellence possible.
“I am very happy to see our Finance Department recognized for their hard work and dedication to our Town so as to earn these awards for excellence in financial clarity and transparency. Our Town CFO Lunda Asmani and Board of Education Finance Director Dr. Joann Keating lead strong teams to manage finances well for New Canaan taxpayers,” said First Selectman Kevin Moynihan.
That sentiment has been the resounding expression of members of the town governing bodies. These financial reports can be found on the Department of Finance page of the Town’s website, www.newcanaanct.info.
