New Canaan Library Updates: Late Fees Waived Until July 1, Masks Required Inside Library, Limited Table Seating, and More

New Canaan Library is open to visitors for browsing, computer use, and limited seating.

All visitors MUST wear a mask that fully covers the nose and mouth inside the building at all times.  Please bring your library card to borrow materials at our self-checkout stations.

Private meeting rooms and conference rooms are not available at this time, nor is access to our lower level. Most programs remain virtual, with the exception of select in-person, outdoor programs as weather permits.

As the pandemic situation evolves, our policies are subject to frequent change. Please join our email list and check our website for current information.

Monday-Thursday 9AM – 7PM

Friday 9AM – 5PM

Saturday 10AM – 5PM

Closed Sunday

Returns are accepted at our outdoor book drop 24 hours daily

What in-person services are available?

Browsing the Main Library

  • All staff and visitors in the building over age 2 must wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose at all times, without exception
  • Adult, Teen, and DVD borrowing available via self-service checkout. Please bring your library card or library card number
  • Reference and technology assistance available by appointment via our Book a Librarian form HERE.
  • Computer Center with access to Internet and Microsoft Office. After 60 minutes, you may be asked to leave if others are waiting
  • Black & White (15 cents/page) and Color Printing (50 cents/page) – please bring small bills or change to use at the print release station
  • Photocopier and document scanner are available for self-service. Please bring small bills or change to use at the print release station
  • Faxing available at Information Desk (exact change only please: $1 per page)

Browsing the Children’s Library

  • Children under 12 must always be accompanied by an adult; all adults and children over 2 must always wear a mask
  • Please be considerate of others’ personal space and time spent in the Children’s Room
  • Children’s book and DVD browsing and borrowing available via self-service checkout. Please bring your library card or library card number
  • No children’s internet computers, toys, or play area available at this time

  • No food permitted in the Library
  • Frequent cleaning of the building, high-touch areas, and service points throughout the day
  • Hand sanitizer stations are installed throughout the building

Services NOT currently available in person

  • Tables and seating are limited to provide ample spacing in the Library’s public areas (Seating cannot be guaranteed)
  • Meeting Rooms and Conference Rooms are not available
  • All toys have been removed from the Children’s Room
  • Access to the Library’s lower level is for staff only
  • Book donations are no longer accepted
  • Notary services are not available
  • Curtis Gallery exhibitions temporarily suspended
  • Most programs, lectures, and workshops remain virtual at this time, with the exception of select outdoor in-person programs as weather permits
