Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT The Engel Team!
Four questions with John A. Engel, founder of The Engel Team.
Why did you start your business?
The Engel Team started with Susan Engel in 1983 and now includes John Engel, Melissa Engel, and Charles Anello. We each bring different skills to the table, from an encyclopedic knowledge of the market to technology, and marketing, the requirements of real estate today are more than any single agent can handle alone. As 3rd generation in New Canaan, we know the town and we sell what we know.
What is your best-selling product/service?
With relatives in just about every town in the area, we are familiar with the whole Coast and sell throughout the whole lower Fairfield County market, but we specialize in New Canaan.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Real estate is fundamentally local. People do not buy houses over the Internet. We advertise in the local newspapers and magazines, hire the local attorneys and house inspectors, pool maintenance. We love Stonebridge Associates for garden design and maintenance. We love Kay Parker Jex for lawyering. And Palladino is everybody’s first call for septic inspections.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
Yes, when we started producing videos telling the story of each house and producing a zoom series discussing the real estate market with experts from around the tri-state area we were taking the job of realtor and reimagining it in the digital age.
HamletHub thanks Fairfield County Bank for making our Why Small Businesses Matter series possible!
