Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Grace Farms Foods!

Three questions with Adam Thatcher, co-founder of Grace Farms Foods.

Why did you start your business?

It all started when we started getting calls from past visitors to mail them bags of our delicious coffee sourced from women-led co-ops around the country.

We started Grace Farms Foods to share the experience of Grace Farms with as many people as possible and demonstrate ethical and sustainable supply chains. It all started with our signature coffee that we would get calls from people asking us to mail them bags around the country.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our teas and gift boxes are incredibly popular.

We launched a collection of organic and naturally sweetened herbal teas and the first-ever Fairtrade certified chocolate chip cookie in America which have become new signature items from Grace Farms. We are excited to be launching a line of black teas in April of this year which is incredibly delicious.

Our gift boxes have become a go-to for locals who want to share a little hometown pride and show how much they care about giving back. Any occasion is a great reason to give cookies, coffee, and tea!

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

We are inventing a new model of philanthropic capitalism. As a 100% not-for-profit-owned business, we give back 100% of profits to support Design For Freedom by Grace Farms, a new movement to end forced labor forever.

We use the company as a way to demonstrate and educate about ethical sourcing of ingredients and sustainable production of our products.

We intentionally source organic and fair trade ingredients that are ‘at-risk’ of having forced labor in the supply chain. The quality and impact of each of our products have become more than we really could have imagined.

Adam would like to nominate Four Plus Bakery/Granola to be featured next!
