New Canaan Library construction update! Parking lot must close for summer

If you have been by the Library recently, you know that our new building project is in full swing and moving swiftly along! Thank you so much for your patience as we remain open in our current building throughout our onsite construction and do our best to continue to deliver the collections, programs and services our community relies on. We are asking for more understanding now, as our existing small onsite parking lot and drive-through must be excavated for the installation of new drainage and water pipes.

Beginning Monday, July 18, and through the end of August, our onsite parking lot will be completely closed for this work. The vehicle entrance from South Avenue will be blocked for the entirety of that time. Beginning Wednesday, July 20, the newly widened exit from Cherry Street will become a 2-way driveway available for parking for those with limited mobility ONLY. The drive-through book drop will not be available at all during this time.

We apologize for this temporary inconvenience. Please feel free to call us at 203.594-5058 to arrange for curbside pickup of your materials if you have difficulty accessing our building during this time. Late fines are already suspended for this period. All long-overdue and even billed items can be returned with no penalty. Free Library parking is available in the Center School Lot across Maple Street, and the pedestrian entrances from Main Street remain open. Pedestrian access from Cherry Street will also be available.

We hope to have this necessary work completed as soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions, suggestions, or concerns; our team will be happy to find accommodations as best we can to meet your needs. Our friends at neighboring libraries are also aware and are prepared to welcome more New Canaan Library cardholders during this period.

We are excited about the continued progress on our new building, which we expect to open in the first quarter of 2023! Please take a look at our construction camera feed to follow along with us!
