You're IT Modern Day Auctions!

Four questions with Kelly Daniel, founder of Modern Day Auctions.

Why did you start your business?

Modern Day Auctions is a woman-owned small business that was created in 2018 as an online estate sale company as all of our sales are now carried out in an online auction format. We currently service Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Modern Day Bids is our newest and most exciting news as we just launched our own custom online auction platform which is fast, simple, and has a fun interface.

I started my original and traditional estate sale company called Within Reason in 2010 in response to my client's needs to sell the contents of their homes, as I am a real estate agent in New Canaan with Brown Harris Stevens. Thankfully, we re-branded and went online, just before Covid. We are mostly referral based and run over 100 online auctions per year.

What is your best-selling product/service?

A full house online auction from our client’s home or two. We have a showroom in the Sono Collection in South Norwalk where we run multi-client online auctions.  This service is unique to us because we can accept a single item to sell or multiple items, at any point in time.  We run 3-4 multi-client online auctions per month. We have been in our new space with LA Home since last August.  3. We also offer a liquidation service to our clients which consists of dump runs, donation runs, and cleaning services to make sure that their home is clean and close ready if sold or going on the market.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We connect with many organizers, including Neen Socci of New Canaan or Done & Done. We work closely with stagers including Lisa Hynes from Stage to Show since she is bringing in furniture and we are helping our clients monetize the furniture that they are replacing. We also frequently use movers to assist our clients including Wyngmen out of Darien and JB Movers out of Stamford.  We also refer to senior move managers like Stardust and Changing Places. We have close relationships with most of the real estate firms in the area and we pride ourselves on giving their clients the very best service.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Yes, I have reimagined my small business with the major step of developing our own online auction platform, Moderndaybids.com, which took 2 years to develop. We just had a fabulous launch party on March 31 and we were able to show our clients and customers the future of online auctions.  Not only will this serve our clients better as well as offer our customers a superior experience, but it will allow us to build and expand our company into other regions.
