HEADS UP ON CANDIDATES “CHARTER REVISION" MAILER

Keep an eye peeled for a blue-and-white mailer from the New Canaan League of Women Voters (LWV). This impartial, informative document, mailed out this week to New Canaan residents, explains each charter revision question on the upcoming ballot and describes the issues pertaining to each one.

Residents can also attend the Candidates Forum, co-sponsored by the LWV of New Canaan and the New Canaan Advertiser, on November 1st and get a handle on what’s at stake for New Canaan with our upcoming charter revision. The New Canaan LWV will give a brief, nuts-and-bolts presentation on proposed changes to the Town of New Canaan Charter. Questions from the audience will follow, to be addressed by members of the Charter Revision Commission.

Because neither Hector Lopez, Green Party candidate for the 125th District of the Connecticut State General Assembly, nor Anna Duleep, Working Families Party candidate for the 142nd District, is able to attend, there will be no debate among candidates for the General Assembly, but incumbent General Assembly candidates Tom O'Dea (R - 125th District) and Fred Wilms (R - 142nd District) will be present that evening. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with them informally from 6:30 until 7:00pm, prior to the commencement of the program, and again at the conclusion of the evening.

The debate among candidates for State Senate will proceed as originally scheduled.

This free, public event will be held at the Town Hall Meeting Room - doors will open at 6:30, and light refreshments will be served; the forum begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.

The event will be aired live on Channel 79.  For questions about this event, or to submit a question to the candidates or members of the Charter Revision Committee in advance, please email: newcanaandebate2016@gmail.com or telephone Kathryn Tohir at (203) 972-5898.
