New Canaan Police Department Receives Gold Standard in Public Safety

On November 16, 2019, New Canaan Police Department was issued its 9th CALEA Award, the "gold" standard in public safety.

"Our Department is proud to be ONE of only THREE CALEA accredited local police departments in Fairfield County. Additionally, less than five percent of all police departments across the United States are CALEA accredited," New Canaan Police say.

The Accreditation Team consisting of Sergeant Brian Mitchell, Sergeant David Payne, and every sworn and civilian member of our Department contributed to this effort. Their work each day helped our agency achieve excellence.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations. The CALEA Accreditation program seals are reserved for use by those public safety agencies that have demonstrated compliance with CALEA Standards and have been awarded CALEA Accreditation by the Commission.
