A Heat Advisory will be in effect tomorrow, 11 AM Thursday, July 27 to 9 PM Friday, July 28. Heat index values up to 102 are expected during the afternoon on both days. Saturday the heat index will be near 98 degrees.
Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on those most impacted by heat, those who are pregnant, infants, children, the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions including cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
The New Canaan Library and the Lapham Community Center are both available as air-conditioned public spaces for residents. Their hours of operation are below:

Everyone should take these steps to prevent heat-related illnesses, injuries, and death during hot weather:
• Stay in an air-conditioned indoor location as much as possible
• Drink plenty of fluids even if you don’t feel thirsty
• Schedule outdoor activities carefully, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning if you have to work outside
• Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing and sunscreen
• Check on a friend or neighbor, in particular the elderly and the functional needs community
• Never leave children or pets in cars
