Boat Blows Up at Candlewood Lake-All Are Safe (2)

A pleasure boat with an indoor/outdoor drive being worked on at a dock on Candlewood Lake in Danbury exploded Saturday, June 22nd, around 4:00 just after it was started.

Neighbors on Waterview Drive heard and saw the infurno and called 911. Later, they helped the firefighters drag the hoses to the boat, soothed the owners, and lassoed a nearby watercraft that the rescuers freed, for safety's sake.

The pleasure boat burned to a crisp, the dock was damaged, and a nearby kayak melted. As soon as the firefighters left, the boat sank.

Around 5:00, the Department of Environmental Protection inspected the area, presumably because of the gas and oil residue on the lake from the sunken boat.

Sincere thanks to good neighbors, the Danbury firefighters, and the DEP for being there to help.
