Get to Know Your Neighbors at The Senior Center's Annual Penny Social

The Friends of the New Fairfield Senior Center will be holding a Penny Social this Sunday, August 11th, from 12:00 to 400 pm in the Senior Center at 33 Route 37 in New Fairfield. A Penny Social is a cross between an auction and a raffle. For an admission price of $2, you are given a card of 25 two-part tickets as you enter a room where hundreds of gently used and new items (including gift cards donated by local businesses) are displayed. As you move around the room, you place one half of each of your tickets in a can by the item that you choose to bid on. At the designated time, the cans are shaken up and the winning ticket is pulled and announced.

Additional cards of 25 tickets as well as delicious refreshments are available for purchase. The emphasis is on "social" because it's hard to get around the room without getting to know your neighbors and it's lots of fun for all ages.

This is just one of several events that the Friends of the New Fairfield Senior Center hold each year for the purpose of providing additional funds and to encourage community support for programs that will benefit the lives of our senior population.
