On Tuesday January 23rd, we held New Fairfield’s Relay For Life kick-off event. Relay For Life committee members, American Cancer Society staff, and the public got together to start an amazing journey. One to raise funds, support our community and put an end to cancer. Guests at the event were able to participate in games and raffles, as well as help themselves to any Relay flyers and snacks all while learning how to end cancer once and for all!
We took the opportunity at kick-off to discuss why we relay and what Relay For Life means to us. Everyone has been touched by cancer in some way. Whether it has been a family member, or a close friend. We know there is nothing more devastating than finding out you, or someone you know, has cancer. I unfortunately lost an aunt a few years ago to Ovarian cancer. The cancer she was diagnosed with shortened her lifespan at least 20 years. A couple months ago I attended a funeral for my cousins mother who died at the age of 53 due to cancer. No one should ever have to hear the words “You Have Cancer”, but there is hope! Thanks to each and every one of you participating in our annual event, more money can be raised for research, and less people will suffer as the years go by. More money can be raised to provide rides, treatment plans, wigs and support while they fight for their life. More money and awareness so one day no one will hear the words “You Have Cancer.” Let’s fight back together to end this terrible disease once and for all!
