Violins of Hope: Strings of the Holocaust, narrated by Academy Award-winner Adrien Brody, is a documentary featuring Israeli violinmaker Amnon Weinstein and his efforts to restore violins recovered from the Holocaust. Some were played by Jewish prisoners in concentration camps; others belonged to the Klezmer musical culture, which was all but destroyed by the Nazis.
Isaac H. Ohring is a violinist and composer. He began playing violin at the age of nine as part of the Meeting House Hill School Strings Program in New Fairfield, CT. He has studied classical violin with Alison Breisler Corigliano, Calvin Weirsma, Victoria Patterson, and Patti Kilroy. In 2009, Isaac began taking lessons in Klezmer violin from Alicia Svigals. Isaac now holds a Bachelor of Music Performance in Violin from Western Connecticut State University.
Isaac enjoys playing the violin because it keeps him busy, he loves the beautiful music, he grabs other people’s attention, and it is basically his life. He loves to play for all kinds of occasions, including performances and informal jam sessions. Music is a great way for him to connect with other people, including his family and friends as well as friends he made through music.
Isaac will be performing the following tunes: “Off to the Catskills” into “Back to the Lower East Side,” “Yellow Ticket vig lid,” “Watch out for Sharks,” “Dancing on the Upper West Side,” “Off to Canada,” and “Chai.” Alicia Svigals composed “Yellow Ticket vig lid” and the rest of the tunes are Isaac’s original compositions. Isaac Ohring lives in New Fairfield, Connecticut.
The refreshments are BYOB picnic style for general seating
