Broken Reed Saxophone Quartet
Saturday, January 4th at 7:00PM
Come escape the winter cold, and join us at the JCC in Sherman for an evening of jazz on Saturday, January 4th at 7PM with Broken Reed Saxophone Quartet. The band will be playing Mozarts Swings Those Who Were!
Charley Gerard, a prize-winning jazz composer and author, is a brand-new Sherman resident. He is a 2019 recipient of the prestigious New Jazz Works grant from Chamber Music America with the generous support of the Doris Duke Foundation. He started The Broken Reed Saxophone Quartet in 2002. The current group is composed of Charley on alto sax, Jenny Hill on soprano sax, Justin Flynn on tenor sax, and Dimitri Moderbacher on baritone sax. Together, they transport their audience everywhere, from Mozart to New Orleans to Cuba, to the pages of poetry and popular culture. As its name implies, the group is as linked by its sense of humor as it is by its unique sound.
The JCC in Sherman has been a gathering place for the local communities in the Candlewood Lake area and nearby New York towns since 1994. The mission of the JCCS is to provide high quality educational, cultural, and social programs to Sherman, CT and the surrounding communities serving all people irrespective of age, race, or religion.
