Art Expo Fundraiser at the Habitat ReStore at the Danbury Fair Mall Saturday and Sunday!

Housatonic Habitat will hold its second annual Art Expo Fundraiser at the Habitat ReStore at the Danbury Fair Mall on Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22.

The Art Expo will offer over 150 pieces of art for sale, donated by private individuals and corporations. It includes a wide range of styles and periods from signed original oil paintings, watercolors and limited-edition lithographs to beautifully framed prints and posters, hand-carved ebony African tribal statues and South American masks.

Among the featured works are an early oil painting by artist Howard Terpning, who established his reputation with his dramatic illustrations of classic films such as The Sound of Music and Dr. Zhivago and went on to became famous for his paintings of the American West and Native Americans. He has received many awards including National Academy of Western Art’s Prix de West, the Hubbard Art Award for Excellence, and the 2005 Masters of the American West Thomas Moran Memorial Award. The show also features many collectible pieces of art such as a vintage poster from the 2000 French Tennis Open at Stade Roland Garros, original abstract expressionist paintings, and framed vintage equestrian scenes and beautifully rendered botanical prints.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit Habitat’s Brush with Kindness program, a volunteer service that offers basic home repairs and ADA modifications for low-income seniors so they can safely “age in place”. “We expanded our program last year to include ADA safety modifications for low-income seniors as well as families in our community,” says Housatonic Habitat Executive Director Diana Arfine. “We offer everything from adding grab bars, non-slip stair treads and railings, to building ramps and widening doorways for wheelchair accessibility.”

The program also provides landscaping services, painting, and help with basic home repairs to enable homeowners to live in safe, decent homes. This volunteer program relies on private funding and corporate donations in order to offer this service free of charge to senior and low-income homeowners.

The Art Expo opens Saturday, January 21 from 11am-6pm, and Sunday, January 22 from 12noon - 5pm. The Housatonic Habitat ReStore is located on the second level of the Danbury Mall, between the Apple Store and Lululemon.
