New Fairfield High School Students Participate in National Walkout

On Wednesday, March 14th, at 10:00 am students across America stood up and walked out of class to promote safety in schools. Here in New Fairfield it was smaller than the other schools and states. We didn’t have a parade or anything big. Just a little over 100 kids with a couple signs standing around the clocktower. A few kids made speeches, they were unprepared but that made them all the more emotional.

“It hasn’t gotten better since Sandy Hook, in fact it’s gotten worse.”

“We are the future generation and we deserve to be heard”

“School needs to be a safe place.”

It was student led by sophomores Shreya Kanetkar and Megan Reynolds and junior Kimete Alami. The event ended with 2 minutes of silence and everyone went back to class at 10:17. 17 minutes to honor the 17 Parkland victims.
