Danbury Concert Association Closes Season with Blistering Virtuosity of Daedalus Quartet on May 19

In Greek mythology, Daedalus was a skillful craftsman and artist, and was seen as a symbol of wisdom, knowledge, and power. At its height, amidst a "golden age of American string quartets” (New Yorker), the apt-named Daedalus Quartet established itself with exceptional artistry, craft, and Daedalean sophistication. Since winning the top prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition in 2001, the Daedalus Quartet has impressed critics and listeners alike with the security, technical finish, interpretive unity, and sheer gusto of its performances.

What better choice for the Danbury Concert Association to close its 2018/2019 season on Sunday, May 19th at 3:00pm. The concert will be held at Veronica Hagman Concert Hall in southwest Connecticut’s premier performing arts facility, the state-of-the-art Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) on Western Connecticut State University's Westside Campus in Danbury, CT (43 Lake Avenue Extension).

The afternoon's program will include:

'Notturno' from String Quartet No. 2

Alexander Borodin (1833 - 1887)

String Quartet No. 2, 'Intimate Letters'

Leoš Janáček (1854 - 1928)

'Cantabile' from String Quartet No. 1 in D Major, Op. 11

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840 - 1893)

String Quartet Op. 106 in G Major

Antonín Dvořák (1841 - 1904)

Daedalus Quartet has been praised for its technique, interpretive unity, and impressive intensity. Critics have applauded its "insightful and vibrant performances" (New York Times); "blistering virtuosity" (Washington Post); and "finesse and fury" (Boston Globe), and the Houston Chronicle marveled at "the magic that hushed the audience." The award-winning members of the Daedalus Quartet - Min-Young Kim and Matilda Kaul, violins; Jessica Thompson, viola; and Thomas Kraines, cello - hold degrees from the Juilliard School, Curtis Institute, Cleveland Institute, and Harvard University.
