NASA Celebrates the Legacy of the Spitzer Space Telescope Observatory

We’re celebrating the legacy of one of our Great Observatories, the Spitzer Space Telescope, which studied the universe in infrared light for more than 16 years. The long-lived mission came to a close on Jan. 30.

Spitzer made discoveries from inside our solar system to nearly the edge of the universe. The mission’s list of accomplishments includes some of the first investigations of exoplanet atmospheres (planets orbiting stars other than the Sun), the detection of seven Earth-size exoplanets around a star, surprising findings about some of the oldest galaxies in the universe and the discovery of the largest ring around Saturn.
