Canadien Border to re-open for travelers

The 5,525-mile border between the U.S. and Canada has been closed to

non-essential travel since March 2020.

After a year of being closed to travelers, the Canadien Border will re-open. Beginning on Aug. 9, citizens and permanent residents of the United States will be allowed to enter Canada as long as they have been fully vaccinated for at least 2 weeks (14 days) before traveling, Canadien government officials said on Monday.

The 5,000 plus-mile border between the U.S. and Canada has been closed to non-essential travel since March 2020. The closure has been extended on a month-by-month basis by both U.S. and Canadien officials, and the current restrictions officially expire on July 21 but are expected to be extended one last time to August 9th, 2021. Commercial traffic had not been halted.

American citizens and permanent residents will need to provide proof of their vaccination status and must not have any Covid-19 symptoms, officials said. Travelers will also be required to present evidence of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of their arrival in Canada. Officials said that starting Aug. 9, they won’t require follow-up tests from people who are fully vaccinated unless they are selected for random testing.
