Services planned for New Fairfield resident Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Barbra Gordon, 88

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Barbra Gordon

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Barbra Gordon, 88, passed away early in the morning of July 12, 2018 at her home in New Fairfield, CT.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jack, and her two sons John & Kevin.

Born August 1929 in the Bronx, she attended Hunter College, later joining the New York Telephone Company as a Commercial Representative.

She was predeceased by her parents Howell & Elizabeth Hughes.

Betty has seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

After working for almost 10 years at New York Telephone she joined her husband when he was transferred to Havana, Cuba for Avon Products. While in Cuba, Betty was able to enjoy many new experiences. When her husband was promoted to the home office they returned home to set up an apartment and start a ‘new way of life’ where son John was given the descriptive phrase ‘Hecho en Cuba’, born in 1956 and four years later Kevin, born in 1961 and stopping right there.

Betty had many friends. She enjoyed tennis, decorating and most of all, shopping! She was a member of the Stamford Connecticut Historical Society and very active in a supporting role. She was also a member of the Stamford Women’s Club, another active group.

In 1996 Betty & Jack moved from their home in Stamford to New Fairfield for her husband’s retirement. They also had a home in Florida to avoid the cold. Betty would always say ‘I can’t wait to get home to Connecticut’ at the end of each season. She is now home, peacefully at rest, after a brief illness.
