"Perfect Arrangment" at The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts

Topher Payne's comedy, "Perfect Arrangement" takes place in the early 1950s and new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, have been tasked with identifying sexual deviants within their ranks. There's only one small problem; Bob and Norma are both gay and have chosen to marry each other partners to cover up their "deviant" ways. The approach Topher takes on the topic is to tread lightly and create a story that is reminiscent of the 1950's television comedy with lots of humor, laughs and witty dialogue.

The whole play takes place in an upscale apartment in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The two couples live in adjoining townhouses that connect through a closet (oh the irony). They spend their days being the perfect straight married couple while spending the night with their actual partners. Like all perfect arrangments, they work out perfectly, until they don't.

Their secret begins to quickly unravel when a blast from Millie's past, Barbara Grant; a smart, tough, openly spoken woman arrives on the scene. She is a current target of the Departments purge as an immoral woman except she's not willing to play games and go quietly.

Topher Payne’s celebrated ensemble comedy, “Perfect Arrangement,” provided lots of laughs at the Brookfield Theatre for the Arts, Friday, April 26 through Saturday, May 11.

The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing quality live performances and educational opportunities to the Brookfield region. Our regular season consists of five community theater shows chosen to provide a meaningful and entertaining experience that will appeal to a wide ranging audience. Additional workshops and special events are added throughout the year to provide more diverse offerings and creative opportunities. Included is our Spotlight Program, a free learning experience for young performers ages 8 to 15. It is student run & led with adult mentors. Along with live performances, Brookfield Theatre offers a gallery space for area artists to show their work and provide more depth to the cultural experience of theater-goers. We finish each year with our annual Paddy Awards to thank sponsors, performers, and volunteers—and to celebrate!
