Pawling Resident Earns Prestigious ABVP Equine Practise Certification

Dr. Christine Whalin, Veterinarian, Becomes Only Diplomate in the Hudson Valley Region,

7 Second in New York State, With Equine Practice Credentials

Advanced Equine of the Hudson Valley, a Fishkill, NY-based veterinary practice providing quality on-farm and in-hospital care for horses in NY and Western Connecticut, today announced that Christine Whalin, DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) has become certified as a Diplomate, a doctor certified as a specialist by a board of examiners,in Equine Practice. This designation by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) makes Dr. Whalin the sole veterinarian in the Hudson Valley region – and one of only two in New York State – to hold the ABVP Equine Practice certification.

“We applaud Dr. Whalin on the many years of hard work, continued education and commitment that went into this accomplishment,” said Dr. Jeremy Frederick, veterinarian and owner of Advanced Equine of the Hudson Valley. “Since joining Advanced Equine in 2019, Dr. Whalin has embraced its mission of delivering quality, advanced equine medicine to horses and working with the humans that love them. This ABVP certification, and the internal medicine specialty already offered by Advanced Equine, underscores our commitment to excellence.”

ABVP Diplomate status is awarded by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties, an official committee of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and must be renewed every 10 years. In order to obtain Diplomate certification, Dr. Whalin mastered a rigorous and demanding application process and examination. To qualify to sit for the extensive, eight-hour examination, a veterinarian must complete either a residency program or six years of clinical veterinary practice. In addition, two case reports, references, descriptions of practice procedures and professional education records must be submitted and pass review.

“It’s been a long-time goal of mine to obtain the ABVP certification,” said Dr. Whalin. “The hands-on experience and information gathered through studies and cases enhances our pool of knowledge and experience and ensures we’re up-to-date on the latest and best practices in equine medicine, including clinical research and developments in the field.”

Dr. Whalin graduated from Miami University, in Oxford, OH in 2010, and completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University, in Fort Collins, CO in 2015. Before joining Advanced Equine of the Hudson Valley, Dr. Whalin, a resident of Pawling, NY, completed an equine internship and her ABVP residency at New England Equine Practice in Patterson, NY. Dr. Whalin is a member of both the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
