Book Arts Programs Come to Studio Around the Corner

Studio Around the Corner will participate in Freed Formats, the book reconsidered, a traveling book arts exhibition.   While the artwork of Freed Formats is on display in Putnam County at Mahopac Public Library and Putnam Arts Council, related programming of book-making classes for youth and adults, artist talks, and a documentary screening will take place in Brewster at Studio Around the Corner.

Youth ages 8-15 will learn to make an accordion book; adults age 16+ will learn to make a unique book using a technique called Japanese Stab-Binding; and there will be a screening of an award-winning documentary called “Codex,” by Micah Bloom, itself a work of book art.

“We are so pleased to bring these Freed Formats programs and artists to our region,” said Chris Perry (Ridgefield, CT) and Alice Walsh (Carmel, NY), co-curators of Freed Formats.   “After exhibiting our own book art around the country and in Europe, we decided to now invite, organize and showcase the work of many other talented artists who are working in this genre.  The response from both artists and organizations has been enthusiastic. We are confident that residents of New York and Connecticut will be intrigued, amused and informed by this entertaining and provocative show and its related programs.”

Walsh and Perry will exhibit their own artwork at Studio Around the Corner during the month of June.
