Weekly Wrap from Rep. Jahana Hayes

On Thursday, the House passed H.R. 3684, the INVEST in America Act, a transformational infrastructure package for federal investments in our roads, bridges, transit, and rail - reimagining our national transportation policies. This $547 billion infrastructure package will support American transportation and manufacturing, create good-paying jobs, restore U.S. competitiveness, and address climate change in meaningful ways.

This package includes five projects I fought for, that will bring $17.4 million back to the Fifth District for transportation improvements:

The INVEST in America Act provides:

  • $343 billion for roads, bridges, and safety – by increasing investments by 54 percent, with an emphasis on fixing existing infrastructure
  • $109 billion for transit – record investments to increase routes, reduce the transit maintenance backlog, and provide more frequent service
  • $95 billion for passenger and freight rail – tripling funding for Amtrak to $32 billion, allowing for enhanced service, ADA upgrades, and investments to renew and support service on the Northeast Corridor and long distance and state-supported routes

Additional information on the INVEST in America Act is available here.

Building Trust in Local Communities
This week, I joined Rep. Karen Bass (CA-37) for a meeting with the Justice Education Center to discuss federal opportunities to support the positive connections between law enforcement and community.

Rep. Bass spearheaded work on the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. This crucial legislation is designed to provide much needed training, resources, and oversight of law enforcement agencies, while protecting communities that have been subjected to disproportionate levels of police violence.
