Town Of New Fairfield's Fire Marshal's Office posted the following safety tips on Facebook.
Long awaited warm weather means the beginning of grilling season. Please stay safe while grilling.
Make sure your grill is on a stable surface, away from combustible surfaces (deck railings, siding, not positioned under the eve of your home).
Ensure your grill is clean! Grease accumulates and is easily ignited.
Check your propane tank and hoses to ensure they are in good condition.
Be prepared for a fire, if your grill catches fire call 911. Never apply water to a grease fire. For small "flare ups" carefully turn off propane and sprinkle baking soda to extinguish flames.
