Autism Speaks and Walk Team Fundraiser in New Milford on April 8

5th Annual Autism Speaks and Walk Team Fundraiser/Awareness Event New Milford, CT

On Sunday, April 8th the Western CT Autism Speaks Walk, team “Be Aware, Care & Share”, will host its 5th Annual Autism Speaks Walk Team Fundraiser and Awareness Event from 12-5 pm at 1st and 10 Sports Bar and Grill in New Milford CT. Over the past eight years, the team has raised just over $38,000 with this event and the walk. There will be lots of raffles, auction items and more! All while giving attendees the opportunity to help spread the word about Autism, Autism Speaks, and the walk.

“With 1 in 68 children on the spectrum and so little information available,” said Ann Jordan, chair for the Western CT Autism Speaks Walk. "By volunteering our time, and walking for Autism Speaks, we are going to ensure that all individuals on the autism spectrum, including our son Josh, live the lives they deserve! Raising funds for Autism Speaks is something our son enjoys doing, it is empowering him to become the self-advocate he needs to be for a successful future!"

Autism Speaks is a national organization that will focus on the following five mission objectives over the next three years.

1. Increase understanding and acceptance of ASDs as an urgent global public health and social issue - with lifelong implications - that requires action.

2. Be a catalyst for life-enhancing research breakthroughs with a special focus on near-term advancements for individuals with ASD and understanding of the disorder.

3. Increasing timely screening and decreasing the time from diagnosis to intervention.

4. Improve transition to adulthood outcomes across the spectrum.

5. Ensure individuals with ASD and those who care for them have access to reliable information and referrals to community services throughout the lifespan.
