Connecticut Food Bank Pop-Up Pantries Come to Danbury and New Haven Saturday, January 12

The Connecticut Food Bank will offer Pop-Up Pantry food distributions Saturday, January 12, in Danbury and New Haven.

  • The Danbury Pop-Up Pantry will be at Jericho Partnership, Inc., at 44 Spring Street, from 11:00AM to 12:00 noon.
  • The New Haven Pop-Up Pantry will be at the Cornell Scott – Hill Health Center, 428 Columbus Avenue, from 11:00AM to 12:00 noon.

The Pop-Up Pantry is open to anyone in need of food assistance. The Pop-Ups will offer a variety of items, including fresh produce, frozen turkeys, frozen pies, and frozen vegetables.

The Pop-Up Pantry capitalizes on short-notice opportunities to distribute surplus foods, especially perishable fresh produce, dairy products, and frozen foods. “We are always looking for ways to get more food into the community and get it there more quickly,” said Connecticut Food Bank CEO Bernie Beaudreau.

The Pop-Up Pantry sites the food bank will offer are in addition to the 46 monthly scheduled Mobile Pantries and will be announced as they are arranged. The Connecticut Food Bank Mobile Pantry helps address food deserts and transportation barriers that make it difficult for people who are hungry to access the adequate nutrition they need. The Mobile Pantry also helps to provide fresh and refrigerated foods as a supplement in areas where local programs may not have storage resources to distribute those foods.

The Pop-Up Pantries will be announced in the community through the Connecticut Food Bank partner agency network and on the Connecticut Food Bank Facebook and Twitter feeds, Beaudreau said. “We’re working fast to set these dates when we have foods to share. We are grateful to enthusiastic co-hosts and agencies like Cornell Scott – Hill Health Center and Jericho Partnership that help us get settled and then spread the word,” Beaudreau said. “All who are in need are welcome.”

Beaudreau said the timing of this Mobile Pantry is important. “We see tremendous outpouring of support for food assistance around the holidays, but as we head into the coldest months of the year, too many will be faced with choices like paying for heat or paying for food. Hunger affects people throughout the year.”

The Connecticut Food Bank Pop-Up Mobile Pantry will offer two locations this Saturday, January 12, from 11:00AM to 12:00 noon. There will be a Pop-Up Pantry in New Haven, at Cornell Scott – Hill Health Center, 428 Columbus Avenue, and one in Danbury at Jericho Partnership, Inc., at 44 Spring Street. The Pop-Up Mobile Pantry is open to anyone in need of food assistance.
