Heavy snowstorm entering the state at this time.
Winter snowstorm warning in effect for most of the state.
At Noon radar showed a band of moderate snow across Central CT. Another heavy band of precipitation is approaching the Connecticut coast at this time. Any mix should change to all snow as the snow intensity increases over the next few hours.
This Afternoon: Snow intensity increasing and becoming heavy at times by 1:00 PM in Southwestern CT and into the Hartford/Middletown areas by 4:00 PM. The snow has the potential to become very heavy with snowfall rates of 1” – 3” per hour especially in southwestern CT after 2:00 PM and across the rest of the state by the rush hour. A rain/snow line is expected to move into the southeastern Connecticut coastline by 5:00 PM. The impact on the afternoon rush hour is forecast to be major with heavy or very heavy snow falling across most of the state, several inches of snow on most roads and near blizzard conditions. Highs are forecast to be in the low 30’s with Northeast winds gusting to 30 MPH at times inland and to 30 – 50 MPH at times along the coast. The heavy wet snow combined with the strong winds are likely to cause power outages.
The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will continue to closely monitor this storm.
The next update will be sent out at 2:00 PM.
