Connecticut Braces for First Winter Storm of Season

As meteorologists are forecasting the first significant winter weather event of the season that is anticipated to impact Connecticut over the next couple of days, I wanted to remind everyone of several resources our office provides to make sure everyone is informed whenever there are substantial weather events.

First, whenever my office makes important announcements, we will send them out through this mailing list on which you are already subscribed. (If your friends are not subscribed, you can send them this link to sign up.)

Here are several other emergency preparedness resources we provide that you may find useful:

  • CTPrepares website: The CTPrepares website contains several emergency preparedness resources, including tips on what you and your family should do before, during, and after certain types of emergency situations. It also contains a list of important contact information that might be useful during a weather event, including the phone numbers for every utility company in the state in case you need to report an outage. In addition, under the "News" section, my office posts links to the most recent announcements that I have made regarding specific weather events as they occur. The website is located at ct.gov/CTPrepares.
  • CTPrepares mobile app: The CTPrepares mobile app is basically a mirror image of the website but was specifically designed for mobile devices. I strongly recommend installing the app on your phone now and leaving it there so you can have all of the resources it provides at your fingertips. This way, if you ever lose power during a weather event, you know right where you can look to find the contact information for every utility company in Connecticut. Download it for free on iPhones and iPads at the Apple App Store, or on Android devices at the Google Play Store.
  • My Twitter account: During any weather emergency, I will do my best to post continuous updates on my Twitter account throughout the duration of the event. Follow me at @GovNedLamont.
  • DEMHS Twitter account: The staff at the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security also post updates on Twitter during emergency events. You can follow their office at @CTDEMHS.

Stay safe everyone,
Ned
