Don't Put Away the Shovels: Punxsutawney Phil Sees His Shadow!

Today, February 2, 2021, Groundhog Day, comes on the heels of a punishing winter storm that left nearly two feet of snow in its wake. With shovels in hand, we ask, "Will spring come early this year?"

Here Ye, Here Ye, Here ye!

As we do on every Groundhog Day, we turn to a burrow-loving rodent named Phil for the answers.

Today, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Phil's handler, an astute looking man in a black top hat, but his furry friend down on the cold, snow-covered winter ground while Groundhog Day enthusiasts watched and waited...

Phil looked behind him and saw his shadow.

According to folklore, this indicates that we can't put away the shovels just yet - Phil predicts there will be six more weeks of winter.

Should we put our trust in Phil? According to reports, in the past decade, Phil has predicted a longer winter seven times and an early spring three times. He was only right about 40% of the time, this information comes courtesy National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (not a great track record for Phil).
