Local High School Students Bring Bunnies and Technology to Seniors at Brandywine Living at Litchfield

(Litchfield, Conn –) On Tuesday, March 27, 2018 residents at Brandywine Living at Litchfield enjoyed an amazing day of animal therapy and technology education, courtesy of students from Wamogo Regional High School’s Vocational Agriculture Program and Talent and Gifted Program. This intergenerational event was the first in an ongoing partnership between the two organizations.

The students, under the direction of instructor James Fisher, presented information about the benefits of animal therapy. Residents had the opportunity to experience the benefits firsthand by interacting with Rodney and Moo, therapy bunnies brought by the school. Smiles were abundant as the animals made their rounds to Assisted Living and Reflections Serenade, Brandywine’s state-of-the-art memory care community.

For the second part of the program, students educated residents on how technology can be used to enhance cognitive function, while having fun, through brain games. The students helped residents navigate brain games on a tablet for an interactive and educational technology experience.

Tobylynne Yurchick, Brandywine’s Escapades Producer, who is in charge of planning entertainment and activities for the residents, could not have been happier with the day.

“The kids did such a great job at engaging the residents and seems like they also got a lot out of it too! We are very excited to work with Wamogo and these bright, compassionate young people to develop additional opportunities for intergenerational programming,” said Tobylynne.
