New Milford Student Inducted Into Immaculate High School's National Honor Society Chapter

Immaculate High School (IHS) recently inducted 37 students into the St. Thomas Aquinas Chapter of the National Honor Society, an affiliated chartered chapter of the National Honor Society, including New Milford student Caitlin Fanella ‘21. The students must apply to be accepted and go through a rigorous process including a review of grades, activities and character, interviews by staff and writing essays.

“Immaculate High School’s National Honor Society members uphold a criteria of excellence in not only academics but also in their leadership roles in extracurricular activities and community service. They are recognized for their outstanding hard work and commitment to embrace the challenge of exceeding their own personal expectations,” said Mary Maloney, President of Immaculate High School.

Students who are inducted into the National Society are required to have a minimum 3.5 GPA. They must also have a leadership role in either the school or community, inspire positive behavior in others, serve at least 75 hours (juniors) or 100 hours (seniors) of community service and consistently demonstrate respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring and good citizenship. Membership is offered to juniors and seniors who meet the criteria established by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. Once accepted, they are expected to uphold the criteria of excellence in all four areas.

"These students should be very proud to be members. It's more than just academics: these students provide many hours of service to the community and are leaders among their peers,” said Dana Pinckney, IHS English Teacher and National Honor Society Advisor.
