Longtime Volunteer Firefighter Robert S. Golembeski, 69, of New Milford, has Died

Robert S. Golembeski, 69, of New Milford, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2021. He was the loving husband of Muriel (Johnson) Golembeski. 

Robert was born in New Milford on June 14, 1951; the son of the late Stanley and Anna (Docktor) Golembeski. A lifelong resident of New Milford, Robert graduated from New Milford High School in 1969. He was married on June 12, 1982 and worked for Kimberly Clark Corporation and Yankee Gas. In recent years, Robert also worked closely with his son, David as a groundskeeper at Pomperaug Golf Club.

Robert was a 48 year Volunteer Firefighter with the Water Witch Hose Company #2 of New Milford. He served in numerous positions and established many lasting friendships through his years of service at the firehouse. He also spent many years as a volunteer EMT with the New Milford Ambulance and served as chief in 1990. Robert was a CPR instructor and additionally volunteered with the American Red Cross in shelter management and disaster assessment. In his spare time, Robert also worked as a funeral assistant at Jowdy-Kane and Kane Funeral Homes of Danbury and Ridgefield and Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford.

Robert is survived by his wife of 38 years, Muriel; his son, David Golembeski; his sister, Kathryn Golembeski; his nieces, Leanne Golembeski and Rebekah Brady and his nephew, William Brady. He is also survived by his extended family; his cousins, fellow firefighters and EMS personnel and many colleagues and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury for their compassionate care in Robert's final days as well as the many doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who gave assistance in recent years.

A Walk Through Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home; 9 Granville Avenue, Danbury. Facial coverings, social distancing and hand sanitizing are required at the visitation. Graveside funeral services and interment will take place on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Center Cemetery, New Milford.

For attendance at the walk through visitation, facial coverings, social distancing and hand sanitizing are required. Guests are asked to pay their respects promptly and kindly take their leave from the funeral home so others may have the opportunity to do the same. Please do not socialize with other guests at the funeral home. Thank you.
