New Milford High School to open on Tuesday, September 6 with Some Portable Classrooms

This afternoon, New Milford Public School Assistant Superintendent Hollander sent a letter to the school community sharing some good news. "Through non-stop efforts by our town’s public works, town and school district leaders, as well as our contractor, Belfor Remediation, will allow New Milford High School, along with our other four schools, to open on Tuesday, September 6th. This will occur without the need for portable classrooms at the high school."

Please read Hollander's letter below.

Dear NMPS Staff and Families,

The fire of July 5th at New Milford High School has struck our community to the core. We are grateful to all who were on the scene and bravely combated the blaze.

Mayor Bass has been at the center of the efforts, coordinating and keeping the community updated along the way. Uncertain about the damage, the Board of Education and district leaders immediately began planning to ensure all students would be able to return to school to start the 2022-2023 school year. Our goal has been to re-open our high school as quickly as possible with minimal disruption.

We are pleased to announce that the remediation process, through non-stop efforts by our town’s public works, town and school district leaders, as well as our contractor, Belfor Remediation, will allow New Milford High School, along with our other four schools, to open on Tuesday, September 6th. This will occur without the need for portable classrooms at the high school.

Keeping our students safely in the building has been our goal. We appreciate the commitment of the educators at New Milford High School for their flexibility. We thank our families for their understanding, as further adjustments may need to be made along the way. Updated high school information can be found on the district’s website as well as on the Mayor’s social media pages. The link on our website can be found here.

Throughout this challenge, the Town of New Milford has demonstrated its continued commitment to students and the school district.
On behalf of the Mayor, the Board of Education, and the District’s Administrative Team, we thank you for your continued support.

Respectfully,
Holly Hollander
Assistant Superintendent
