New Milford Public Library unveils restorations on February 18 with ribbon cutting celebration, tours, and activities!

New Milford Public Library will open its beautifully restored facility to the public on Saturday, February 18th. The Library Board of Trustees, Library Construction Committee Members, Library Staff, Friends of the Library, and Mayor look forward to welcoming you to the new library!

Please join us for a ceremony and ribbon cutting at 10AM in front of the library. The celebration will last until 5PM with tours, activities, and programs taking place throughout the day for all ages. Come for the opening celebration or join us later in the day.
All are invited!

Finally, you will be able to come in to select a book from the shelf and sit in one of our beautiful window spaces or in a comfortable corner. Our new library will be a center for community gathering, for literacy, learning, culture, and entertainment. I encourage you to come and use one of our public computers, access wifi, printers, copiers, fax, or scanner. Reserve a study room on the upper level or enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the Reading Room in the 1897 House. Bring your children in to explore the enhanced and modernized Children’s Department and the all-new Teen Space.

Library staff are waiting eagerly to work with you – recommending books, providing digital and informational assistance, and running activities and programs. Along with the trusted staff members you have known for years, we have welcomed a number of capable new employees. All are here to help you. If you do not have a library card, bring your proof of New Milford residence on opening day and we will make one up for you to take home, free of charge. At the library, there is no cost for checking out materials or attending programs.

Initial hours will be Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 10-5; Tuesday and Wednesday, 10-8; Saturday, 9-5; Sunday closed.

We are extremely grateful to the taxpayers of New Milford, the New Milford Public Library Board of Trustees and the CT State Library for providing the funding to bring the long-awaited vision of the library into being. We would also like to thank the Friends of the New Milford Public Library for supporting library services and for providing an off-site programming location during construction. Finally, thank you to the Library Construction Committee, the Mayor, and Town Council for their dedicated service and support throughout the project. You have all worked together to deliver a spectacular, updated facility to the community.
