Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT BD Provisions!

Three questions with Tara DiPippa, founder of BD Provisions.

Why did you start your business?

We wanted to create a store concept that would give customers high-quality products with a focus on sustainable packaging. We wondered why the zero and low waste stores that were starting to pop up in Europe and other places around the world hadn’t really started to show up in the US so we decided that we would be amongst the first to bring this concept to the US, starting in Connecticut. Our store makes it easy and fun to shop for amazing foods without all the unnecessary excess packaging you see in most grocery stores.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our best-selling product is definitely our coffee and, specifically, our signature blend, Midnight Joe. Part of what makes BD Provisions special is that we roast all of our coffee right in our stores for the ultimate in freshness. If you time your visit right, you can watch your coffee being roasted and take it home right out of the roaster, still warm. Whether you are looking for Organic, flavored, light, medium, or dark roasted coffee or maybe a Swiss Water Process Decaffeinated coffee, BD Provisions has the perfect bean for you, roasted fresh in our stores.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

BD Provisions is proud to support other local businesses! Some of the local products we carry in our Connecticut stores are our soy-based candles from Olive my Home (Redding, CT), maple syrup from Maple Craft (Sandy Hook, CT), Swedish dishcloths from Three Bluebirds (Greenwich, CT), gluten-free granola from Kelly’s Four Plus Granola (Norwalk, CT) and local honey from Red Bee Honey (Weston, CT). Our Fairfield location also carried flowers from Blossom & Stem in Westport during key holidays.

Tara would like to nominate Blossom & Stem Flowers in Westport to be featured next!
