State Police Promote Top Command Staff

The Connecticut State Police promoted three Troopers to command staff positions during a ceremony at today at the State Police Training Academy in Meriden.

James C. Rovella, Commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, and Colonel Stavros Mellekas, Commanding Officer of the Connecticut State Police, formally promoted the Troopers during the event. 

The following persons were promoted:

Lieutenant Colonel David Montini  Lt. Montini was promoted from Lieutenant and will now serve as Commanding Officer in the Office of Field Operations.  In his most recent assignment, he served as Chief of Staff to the Lieutenant Colonel. Lt. Montini has been a Trooper for more than 20 years and has earned seven Unit Citation Awards and the TFC Allan J. Tuskowski Award for Excellence in Training. He has served as Commanding Officer of Troop A in Southbury and as a member of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force. He previously was a detective with the Western District Major Crime Squad, served at Troop G in Bridgeport and on the Fugitive Task Force and Extradition Unit. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and formerly worked as a police officer in Meriden.

Lieutenant Colonel John S. Eckersley Lt. Colonel Eckersley was promoted from Captain and will serve as Commanding Officer of the Office of Administrative Services. He most recently served as Acting Commanding Officer in the Bureau of Special Investigations. In more than 29 years as a Trooper, he has served as Commanding Officer of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, in the Auto Theft Unit, Casino Unit and the Eastern District Major Crime Squad. In addition, he has served as Commanding Officer of Troop F in Westbrook and Troop K in Colchester. During his State Police career, he has earned three Medals for Meritorious Service a Lifesaving Award and five Unit Citation awards. Lt. Colonel Eckersley earned a B.S. from Westfield State College and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Lieutenant Colonel Michael Davis  Lt. Colonel Davis was promoted from Major and will take on his new assignment as Commanding Officer of the Office of Professional Standards.  His most recent assignment was Commanding Officer of the State Police Central District. He previously served as Commanding Officer of the Office of Training and Support Services and as Commanding Officer at Troop A in Southbury and Troop B in North Canaan. A Trooper for more than 24 years, he has earned a department Medal for Meritorious Service and two Unit Citation Awards. Lt. Colonel Davis earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut.
