New Milford Police and Mayor Bass Statement on Tragic Death of George Floyd

The New Milford Police Chief Spencer Cerruto together with Mayor Pete Bass have released a statement regarding the recent tragic death of George Floyd. Please read below:

Dear Citizens of New Milford,

We are writing to acknowledge the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis as a tragedy that has caused much pain and concern in our community and country. Mr. Floyd's death reminds us all of the need for fairness and equality in our society and our justice system. Every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect as everyone matters and everyone has a voice.

The Town of New Milford is a close and caring community, a community of strong faith and honor. The New Milford Police Department is a part of this great community and we strongly believe in the principles of integrity, equality and respect for all. 

The men and women of the New Milford Police Department care about the community and strive every day to understand the needs of the community and the importance of working with the community in an open, ethical, and compassionate matter. It is our mission to provide excellence in service to the entire community and in every interaction. Our officers are committed to equitable treatment and take their oat of office to heart, in being fair, impartial, and unbiased in the application of the law.

We are all in this together, police officers included, and even more so during these difficult times, we must stand together, understanding that our diversity is our strength.
