Newtown Police report juvenile rescued from water succumbed from injuries

Newtown Police Update

On Thursday, July 27, Newtown Police officers responded to the area of the Silver Bridge (Southbury Town Line) on Glen Rd in regards to a 911 call for help.

Upon arrival, police discovered that a 17-year-old Bridgeport CT resident was in the water underneath the bridge, had gone under and not resurfaced. The Juvenile had been with a group of youths who were entering the water in the area of the bridge. Several Newtown Police Officers searched for the Juvenile under the surface of the water and were able to locate and recover the Juvenile from the water. The juvenile was transported to the hospital for advanced care by Newtown Ambulance.

During the evening hours of Thursday, July 27, 2023, the Newtown Police Department became aware that the 17-year-old Juvenile rescued from the water earlier that day had succumbed to his injuries while being treated at Danbury Hospital.
